Thereupon, it can be said that school sport team leaders as the educators of student players play significant roles, but despite that importance, the current treatment for school sport team leaders is absolutely poor. Present school sport team leaders receive 1.5 million won per month averagely as irregular workers having an employment contact annually with the city’s or the province’s athletic association, education office, or school and face the reality of successive hardships of life for continuous employment anxiety and low wage. From this perspective, this article generally considers the legal and institutional areas related with the improvement of treating school sport team leaders to figure out the actual status of laws and institutions and furthermore to provide measures to improve the treatment and status of school sport team leaders. First of all, each of the city and province education offices uses the name of school sport team leaders diversely. Although school sport team leaders are a type of the athletic leaders defined in the National Sports Promotion Act and their legal status should be secured by the same law, legal regulations have been applied to them according to the acts related with the protection of short-term and temporary workers. Moreover, the leaders’ contract renewal depends on their student players’ game results. In this situation, we can never expect the school sport team leaders’ educational instruction. Therefore, in order to improve the treatment and status of the school sport team leaders, first, it will be necessary to strengthen reeducation for improving their expertise, establish organizations for certification, change educational methods applied to the leaders, actualize the treatment of school sport team leaders, and lay the legal ground to secure the legal status of school sport team leaders.
