Through this research, I would like to address definition, origins, symptoms, and types of addiction. Also, this research will address physiological, psychological, social, family-systemic, and spiritual issues of addiction. Various theories have attempted to define addiction. Psycho-dynamic theory views that addiction is caused by disharmony within familial and social relationships. In behavioral theory, addiction is a form of positive reinforcement. Also, psychiatrists explain addiction in terms of generics and neuro-physiology. Origins of addiction can be further explained by various social environmental factors such as parents’ drug abuse, family dysfunction, abused personality, cultural influences, and absence of ethical and spiritual values. Through the introduction to the various approaches, this research aims to offer counselors with new horizons to understand addiction in depth. Regarding impacts of addiction, this research offers holistic understanding that take into consideration physical, psychological, social, family-ystemic and spiritual dimensions of impacts that addiction generates. Especially, I will focus on impacts of addiction on spirituality and understanding of God, and, further, offer crucial insights for healthy understanding of God and spirituality. Also, types of addiction, this research explores and elaborates issues such as characteristics of adult child, his or her central belief, and his or role types and attempts to raise awareness of characteristics of addiction family. Thinking of the issues of addiction in our Korean Christian society, I would like to introduce successful examples of recovery ministry based on small support groups at Willow Creek Church, Chicago, IL and Saddleback Church, Lake Forest, CA. At the end, I would like to introduce cases of recovery ministry with which I have been involved as a Korean Christian minister and counselor, and offer an new pastoral direction to Korean Christian Church community so that they could respond to spiritual and social responsibilities of our time.
