The study of object relations centers upon the archetypes of human relationships and expectations formed by early experience. The purposes of this study were to assess the historical development of images of God and the influence of human object relations on that process. Internalized objects and mental images of self, which stem from past and present social relatedness, help form and maintain not only personal identity but also images of God.
