국문초록

Parents’ goals and attitudes toward shared reading play a significant role as they can affect how parents perform shared reading with their children. The review aims to discover parents’ goals and attitudes toward shared reading using a framework suggested by Arksey and O'Maley. Published articles were searched using electronic databases from Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. A total of 94005 titles were extracted from electronic databases. Of that number, selection for the qualified articles was done following the inclusion criteria, consisting of English or Malay articles that were published between 2000 and 2022 and have information about parents’ goals and attitudes toward shared reading. After eliminating ineligible articles, only 16 articles were selected for review. The articles were eliminated when they did not contain the keywords “shared reading”, “parents”, “goals”, and “attitudes” in the title, abstract, or method. Following the analysis, it was found that different parents have different goals and attitudes toward shared reading. Parents show positive attitudes when performing shared reading with their children. Sociodemographic factors also correlate with the parents’ goals and attitudes toward shared reading. There is emerging evidence of parents’ goals and attitudes toward shared reading, although this is still very limited in Asia.
