본 연구의 목적은 지난 10년간(2015~2025) 국내 사회정서학습(SEL) 관련 음악교육 연구의 동향을 분석하고 그 특징과 한계를 규명하는 데 있다. 총 57편의 논문을 대상으로 연도별 추이, 연구 방법, 출판 유형, 연구 대상, 사회정서학습의 핵심 역량, 음악 활동 유형 여부를 검토하였다. 분석 결과, SEL 연구는 2020년을 기점으로 급증하며 학문적 영역으로 확대되었으나, 문헌연구와 석사학위논문에 편중되고 실증적 검증은 부족하였다. 연구대상은 학령기에 집중되었고, 핵심 역량 중 자기관리와 관계기술이 주로 다루어진 반면 책임 있는 의사결정은 소수에 그쳤다. 음악 활동은 창작 중심으로 연구되었으며 감상 활동은 상대적으로 미흡하였다. 또한 다수의 연구가 CASEL의 틀을 차용하였으나, 국내 맥락을 반영한 연구는 부족하였다. 본 연구는 국내 SEL 음악교육 연구의 현황을 비판적으로 조망하고, 향후 연구의 방향을 모색하는 데 이론적 토대를 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the research trends of social and emotional learning (SEL) in music education in South Korea from 2015 to 2025, and to identify their key characteristics and limitations. A total of 57 studies were reviewed in terms of publication year, methodology, type, participants, SEL competencies, and musical activities. Findings show that SEL-related research expanded notably after 2020, reflecting growing academic interest, Yet it remained largely centered on literature-based studies and master’s theses, with few empirical validations. Participants were mainly school-age learners, while self-management and relationship skills were most frequently addressed, and responsible decision-making was rarely explored, reflecting the emphasis on interpersonal and classroom-oriented aspects of SEL in music education. Musical activities focused heavily on composition, whereas listening received little attention. Most studies explicitly adopted CASEL’s framework, but few contextualized SEL within the Korean educational environment. This study contributes by critically mapping current research on SEL in Korean music education and by offering a theoretical basis for future directions.
