본 연구에서는 간호 대학생의 노인에 대한 태도와 치매노인에 대한 태도를 측정 하는데 있어 문항순서의 효과를 검정하고자 한다. 앞에서 제시한 문헌에 기초하여 같은 설문지에서 노인에 대한 태도 를 측정한 후 바로 치매노인에 대한 태도를 측정하는 것과, 치매노인에 대한 태도를 측정한 후 바로 노인에 대한 태도 를 측정하는 경우 비교문맥이 형성됨으로써 응답자가 노인 과 치매노인에 대해 갖는 원래 태도와 각각 다르게 나타날 것으로 예측된다. 특히 노인보다 치매노인에 대한 평가는 부정적일 것이므로 앞서 제시한 Schwarz (1999)의 주장에 기초하여, 치매노인에 대한 질문 후에 바로 노인에 대한 질 문을 하면 노인은 원래의 노인에 대한 평가보다 긍정적인 방향으로 평가될 것이며, 노인에 대한 질문 후에 이어서 치 매노인에 대한 질문을 하면 치매노인은 반대로 부정적인 방 향으로 평가될 것으로 설정하고자 한다.
Purpose: This study was done to examine effects of question order on the measurement of attitude toward elders with dementia and to elders. Methods: Structured questionnaires were administered to four groups of nursing students (n=335). Each group was assigned one type of questionnaire. Data were collected twice with a 2-week interval. At time 1, there were two types of questionnaires including attitude items toward elders with dementia and items toward elders. At time 2 the same two types of questionnaires were used but the item order was reversed; attitudes toward elders and towards elders with dementia. Data were analyzed using paired t-test. Results: There was no difference in responses when the attitudinal items toward elders with dementia were placed before those toward elders. No attitudinal difference was found toward elders with dementia when the questions came after attitudinal questions toward elders. Partial support was observed in obtaining responses in a positive direction toward elders when the questions came after the attitudinal questions about elders with dementia. Conclusion: Attitudinal responses seem to depend on the question order. Strategies need to be adopted to avoid the influence of question order in measuring attitudes toward different groups of elders.
