과거에는 효과적인 생활에 필요한 기본적인 능력으로서의 생애능력개발이 아동들이나 사춘기 청소년들을 위한 학습활동으로 비춰졌다. 즉, 교사, 가족, 지역 사회 주민들의 보호와 감독을 받아야 하는 아동들에게 필요한 것이었다. 하지만 오늘날 생애능력개발은 성인들을 위한 지속적인 학습일감으로 등장하고 있다. 국 경 없는 세계경제와 인구통계적 변화라는 두 가지 상호작용의 힘은 전에 없이 성 인들의 생애능력개발의 필요를 창출해내고 있다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 개인, 조직, 국가 차원에서의 생애능력개발이라는 주제를 탐구하고, 동시에, 이들 주제들이 가 지고 있는 다섯 가지 딜레마를 성인교육자들과 HRD 전문가들을 위해 제시하였다
In the past, developing life skills those basic abilities needed for effective living was viewed as a learning activity for children and adolescents that occurred under the tutelage of teachers, family, and community members. Today, the development of life skills is also a continuous learning task for adults. Two interacting forces create the ever-increasing need for adult life-skill development: the global economy and demographic changes. This paper explores the themes of life skill development for individuals, organizations, and nations. It also presents five dilemmas for adult educators and HRD professionals that are inherent in these themes.
