전문대학은 실무교육의 정체성을 확립하고, 직업고등교육 체제를 구축하여 지역사회 중심 대학으로 성장할 수 있는 학과 개혁을 해야 한다. 학과 개혁의 목적은 산업구조의 변화에 따라 지역산업을 발전시키는 교육과정의 특성화, 실무교육 분야의 전문 인력자 원의 개발, 그리고 지역주민의 생애를 개발하는 성인교육을 강화하는 것이어야 한다. 경기 동남부권은 수도권의 자연보전권의 저발전 지역으로 친환경적인 생태농업관광 과 복지위락관광 도시로 성장할 것이다. 이 지역 전문대학의 학과는 지역사회 발전의 핵심 산업 및 유망 성장산업인 쌀과 환경농업, 도자기와 반도체산업과 연계되어 특성화 되었다. 계열별 학과 개혁의 특성을 살펴보면, 인문․사회계는 세계화와 사업서비스 및 관광산업, 정보화 공학계는 반도체와 영상산업, 자연․보건계는 실버복지와 웰빙 및 쌀 특화산업, 예․체능계는 디자인, 레저와 문화공연 및 도자특화산업을 중심으로 운영되 었다. 학과 개혁의 주요 문제는 급격한 개혁 기간, 명목상의 학과 명칭 전환, 그리고 고 등교육기관 간의 상호교류 부족 등이다.
Community college must go through the reformation in departments to establish identity on practice-oriented education, to build higher education system focusing on vocation and furthermore to grow into the college centering on the local community. The aim of department reformation is curriculum specialization to develop local enterprises in accordance with industrial structure variation, the development of experts in the field of practical business and the intensification of adult education to develop the career of community inhabitants. South-eastern area in Kyeonggi Province, which is under-developed as the preserved one in the Metropolitan area, will grow up as an ecology agriculture tour city and as a welfare excursion tour city. The departments of community college in this area are specialized, in relation to rice, which is both the core industry and vital flourishing industry, environment agriculture, ceramics, and semiconductor industry. The characteristics of department reformation are as follows: liberal & social parts are centered on globalization, business service and tour industry; information & engineering parts are centered on semiconductor and image industry; nature & health parts are centered on silver welfare and industry specialized in rice; and art & physical education parts are centered on design, leisure, culture performance and industry specialized in ceramics.
