This study aims to achieve healthy social relationships through learning a way of
expressing potential negatives by the Integrative Poetry & Bibliotherapy for children
in poverty. Two hypotheses are proposed.
First, the Integrative Poetry & Bibliotherapy helps to enhance a self-control of
children in poverty. Next, the Integrative Poetry & Bibliotherapy aids to reduce a
proactive and a reactive aggression in children suffering from poverty. For the test, 5
of the fifth graders and 4 of the sixth graders in the child consultation center of
Busan sorority were allowed to join in a program for ninety minutes once a week,
totaling 25 times.
Teachers tested them before and after the Integrative Poetry & Bibliotherapy with
the Self-Control Rating Scale (SCRS) developed by Kendall & Wilcox, 1979 and the
Rating Scale for Teachers on the proactive and reactive aggression by Dodge and
Coie. A Sacks Sentence Completion Test was as well used in this program.
There were somewhat differences in each child, but there was a realization of the
hypothesis. In conclusion, the Integrative Poetry & Bibliotherapy works effectively on
controlling the aggressive self-feelings of the children in question, helping them
express themselves in a healthy way.
