ADHD 아동의 교사, 또래동료, 형제, 부모 등 ADHD 관련된 이들은 ADHD의 심각성을 표현하고 있 다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 ADHD의 심리사회적, 학업적 문제와 같은 ADHD의 특성을 검토해보았는데, 임상 및 일반 연구에서는 ADHD 아동이 통제와 관련하여 적대적 반항장애(ODD), 품행장애(CD)와 같 은 동반장애를 지니고 있는 비율이 점점 증가하고 있다고 보고하고 있다. 이러한 동반장애는 외현적 인 증상에 국한되지 않고, 불안, 우울과 같은 기분장애와도 함께 나타나고 있는데, 이는 유전적 원인 이 관여한다는 사실을 보여주는 것이라 할 수 있다. ADHD의 정의에 대해서는 DSM-Ⅲ와 DSM-Ⅳ 등 DSM의 버전에 따라 ADHD의 영역이 달리 강조되고 있는데 이는 ADHD의 본래적인 특성을 모른 채 ADHD를 다루는 것이 어렵기 때문에 그 차이를 살펴봐야 하고, DSM에 의존하고 있는 ADHD의 변화 된 정의를 고찰해볼 필요가 있다. 그리고 ADHD가 생활에 미치는 영향은 정서적 역기능, 대인관계문 제, 학업적 문제 그리고 부모의 스트레스 등 ADHD가 아동의 학업 및 가족 기능에 미치는 영향에 대 해 살펴보았다. 이러한 역기능은 ADHD 증상과 학업적 수행간의 관계에 초점을 두고 설명할 수 있다.
In order to show the significance of the ADHD as a problem to children with the disorder and those who are related to the children, such as their teachers, peers, siblings, and parents, we discussed characteristics of ADHD, including psychosocial and academic problems associated with the disorder with the changed definition of ADHD. Clinical-referred and community-based studies have yielded elevated rates of Oppositional-Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder (CD) in children with ADHD relative to controls. These comorbid conditions are not limited to externalizing syndromes, however, children with ADHD are also at significant risk for developing anxiety or mood disorders. The comorbidity of ADHD with other disorder is evidence for its genetic heterogeneity. For the definition, dimensions of ADHD in DSM versions have been emphasized differently. This means it is difficult to apply treatment of ADHD without knowing the nature of ADHD. Therefore, it is need to explore the changed definition of ADHD depended on DSM. Moreover it was discussed that the problems in various aspects such as emotional dysfunction, interpersonal dysfunction, and academic problems associated with ADHD and lastly parental stress. These dysfunctions would be especially focused on the relationship between ADHD symptoms and academic performance.
