In the midst of changes such as decreasing domestic job market, need for social security networks and
utilization of human capital, enlargement of export foundation, increasing interest in working overseas,
and at the point in which domestic skilled workers\' strive for foreign employment is at its apex, this
study is a basic research for enlargement of overseas employment by understanding the needs of foreign
firms through surveys. In order to do so, this study focuses on Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia as
objects of study and analyzes the field of concentration, personality types, and key competences that
these countries\' firms require. Research questions have been set as follows: 1) What kind of
characteristics of Korean skilled workers do Southeast Asian countries\' foreign employment agencies
prefer? 2) What kind of key competences do Southeast Asian countries\' foreign employment agencies
require? 3) What is the focus point that can be obtained when Korean skilled workers seek employment
in developing countries of Southeast Asia (through survey results of foreign companies). Researchers either
personally visited these countries of study or acted through research facilities as well as through each
countries\' Chambers of Commerce and Industry to carry out the survey. Although there existed slight
differences among the firms of three countries, overall, all firms preferred college-grad experienced male
applicants in their mid-forties. As for the key competencies, firms regarded English skills as priority and
answered that personality and leadership skills are as important if not more important than job related
competencies. With the basis of these survey results, this study has analyzed and laid out the
implications for Korean skilled workers\' overseas employment.
