The purpose of this study was to research the influence of sports goal orientation on exercise
behavior regulation of adolescence. The participants were 639 middle and high school students.
The questionnaire assessed Achievement Goal Orientation and Behavioral Regulation. The
collected data were analyzed by an SPSS 12.0 program, which administered a t-test, a
correlation analysis, and a multiple regression analysis. The level of significance of all the
hypotheses tested was 5%, and the results are as follows. First, boys scored higher in the task
of goal orientation, external regulation, identified regulation, and intrinsic regulation than girls.
But the girls scored higher in amotivation than the boys. Second, high school students scored
higher in task and ego goal orientation, identified regulation, and in intrinsic regulation than
middle school students, while the middle school students scored higher in amotivation than the
high school students. Third, task goal orientation had a negative effect on amotivation, and task
goal orientation showed a positive effect on identified regulation and intrinsic regulation.
