There has been a concern diffused among specialists of geography education with the
beginning of the 7th reformation of national curriculum of education that geography education
is dwindled in both amount and quality of geography textbook. The basic reason, however, is
not the external change of educational environment of curriculum reformation but the oldfashioned
constitution of contents of geography education itself. In order to make students
increase geographical literacy and learn the functions of geographical exploration and
geographical communication, the contents of geography education should be reconstituted by
rearranging basic concepts of geography education and by performing concept-learning method.
The basic concepts should include thematic concepts(location and distribution, relation of
society and nature, place and landscape, movement, scale) and representation concepts(mapping
and GIS, quantitative and qualitative method). Based on those concepts, geography education
should develop suitable contents dealing with population, settlement, urban geography,
industry and distribution, transportation and communication, and politics and society. This
surely helps the whole contents of geography education to be systematic and selfcompletedness.
