본 연구는 영국의 청소년 진로지도에 대해 분석하였다. 진로지도의 배경과 특히 2008년 이후 강화된 진로지도 교육과 그 내용을 고찰하고자 하였다. 영국의 청소년 진로지도는 점점 늘어가는 청년층 실업률을 감소시키고 국가 노동력을 확보하려고하는 사회적 배경이 있다. 학교의 PSHEE(Personal Social Health and Economy Education: 개인ㆍ사회ㆍ보건ㆍ경제교육)과 시민교육을 통해서 진로지도를 해오다가 2008년부터는 아예 개정 교육개혁 안에서 다양한 진로트랙을 제시하기에 이르렀다. 14세-19세 청소년을 대상으로 하는 교육개혁 안에서는 기존의 중등학교 졸업인정 자격 외에도 다양한 진로와 관련된 자격증 과정을 개설하여 청소년들이 소질과 적성, 능력에 맞는 진로를 선택하도록 하였다. 이에 한국이 얻을 수 있는 시사점은 청소년에게 국가수준의 교육과정과 정책에서 상급학교 진학만이 아닌 다양한 진로트랙을 제시할 필요가 있으며 진로전문가의 양성이 중요하다는 점이다.
This study was to analyse career guidance for young people in England. The background of career guidance and the new policy for the career guidance were investigated. The British government tried to reduce the unemployment rates among the young people through career guidance. PSHEE(Personal Social Health and Economy Education) and Citizenship Education has provide career education and practices. Since 2008 the government produced new educational reform to strengthen the career guidance in schools. Especially 14-19 education reform includes 14 different diploma for young people in order to provide various career guidance. Therefore, there should be national policies for career guidance, various career choices and career advisors for young people in schools and non-formal education fields.
