The purpose of study is to examine the relationship of rumination, posttraumatic growth, and
depression for 328 university students(male:152, female:176) who experienced a traumatic
event. The participants made out the questionnaires for traumatic events, ruminant styles,
traumatic growth scale, Korean version of Beck depression. The questionnaire for traumatic
events surveyed traumatic event experiences in various realms. The questionnaire for ruminant
style measured ruminant and reflection level. The post traumatic growth inventory scaled
individual growth experience level after having traumatic event. The result of correlation
analysis between the variables advocated that ruminant of students who experienced traumatic
event showed significant positive correlation with depression, but post traumatic growth did not
show any significat correlation. Reflection has significant positive correlation with post
traumatic growth, and has significant negative correlation with depression. Specifically in
analysis of structural equation model, reflection affected on depression using post traumatic
growth as mediator. In full mediating model of affection test of reflection passing by post
traumatic growth on depression, self-examined reflection indirectly affects on depression
through post traumatic growth. This model has more clear than the partial mediation model of
direct affection on depression of self-examined reflection. This model also showed better result
than simple effect models of reflection with post traumatic growth, and with depression. The
results suggest that self-examined and intended constructive ruminate reflection make mature
post traumatic growth of students who have traumatic events, and that reduce the development
of depression of them. This study is meaningful because it showed positive aspect of reflection
different from previous study focused on negative aspect of reflection.
