Purpose: The purpose of study was to prepare data for establishing the nursing home by understanding the health complaints and the cognition about nursing home in the middle aged patients. Method: Research design was a descriptive survey. The subjects were 186 patients who aged 40-64 and administrated at a hospital in G. City. Data were collected by interview with the questionnaires from Dec. 26, 2003 to Jan. 20, 2004. Data were analysed by frequency, mean, ANOVA. Duncan\'s test through SPSS. Result: The mean score of the health complaints was 1.60 and the cognition about nursing home was 2.15 of 4 point. The score of health complaints was significantly higher in female, lower educational level, lower monthly income, without spouse. The score of cognition about nursing home was significantly higher in higher educational level, higher monthly income. Subjects responded nursing home has merits of the nursing quality and the cost effect, and it should be near home. Conclusions: The level of health complaints was 40% and the cognition of nursing home was 54% of 100 in the middle aged patients.
