The purpose of this study is to validate if a group art therapy program using reminiscence therapy (centered on
gloves) could cause any effects on the self-efficacy of the elderly with chronic illness. The participants of this study
were twelve inmates at a nursing home located in city J, Chungchong-buk-do, all of them from 75-year-old to
92-year-old with chronic illness. The patients, total of 26, were divided into two groups consist of 13 patients
each: the experimental group which received the group art therapy program using reminiscence therapy, and the
control group which did not receive it. 23 sessions lasted from October 26th, 2009 to May 3rd 2010 one sessions
per week, and each session lasted over 90 minutes. Research tools were to inspect self-efficacy, and to validate the
program’s efficacy, repeated variance analysis was conducted. Simple main effect validation was used to interpret
interaction effect when it occurred. At the same time, Duncan multiple comparison was applied to compare groups
and efficacy by examined date. Based on the results, the findings of this study are as follows. the therapy was
effective regarding self-efficacy.
