This research intended to take a look at the family cohesiveness and the mediated effects in the
relationship between the communication between parents and their children and the decision-making among
students. For this purpose, the subjects were 149 male and female college students who were attending
four-year universities in the Chungnam(Province) region. And, the following measures were used: 1. The
measure of the communication between the parents and the children(PACI); 2. The tool for measuring the
family cohesiveness and the adaptability(FACES-III); and 3. The measure for the type test of the
decision-making regarding the path(ACDM). The analysis method used the SPSS Windows 18.0 program.
The effects of the mediator variables were inspected through the following: 1. Technical statistics, 2.
Reliability analysis, 3. Correlation analysis, 4. Factorial analysis, and 5. Path analysis.
If we were to summarize the results of the research, they are the following: Firstly, it appeared that
the communication between the parents and the children has indirect influences on the path
decision-making of university students through family cohesiveness; Secondly, it appeared that the level of
the communication between the parents and the children does not have any direct influences on the
decision-making of the university students. However, thirdly, it appeared that the higher the family
cohesiveness, the communication between the parents and the children has direct influences on the path
decision-making of the students. And it appeared that the family cohesiveness exercises mediated effects on
the relationship between the communication between the parents and the children and the path
decision-making of the university students.
