In view of the importance laid by the church in general on evangelism, it is appropriate that we consider the topic of evangelism in Church Growth, for without evangelism there is no church growth.1) We, who call ourselves the children of God are commanded to be involved in evangelism. The nature of our Christian faith demands that we evangelize. Furthermore, it is because of the commitment to evangelism by other Christians, especially the missionaries, that we from different countries in Asia heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and became Christians. We are, therefore, obligated to reciprocate by our dedication to evangelism. It is time now for us who are in Asia to continue the work that the missionaries before us have started. In his opening address entitled, “Greetings from a Dutch Churchman,” at the International Congress for Itinerant Evangelists held in Amsterdam in 1983, J. Verknyl had rightly said: ... at the root of all our problems lies the reality of broken communication with God and between people. And only Jesus Christ can restore that communication through his life and work. I agree with you all that the most inhumane thing we can do to our neighbors is not to tell them the story of Jesus. We should tell that story through all means available: personal contact, dialogue and media.
