칸트에 대한 존 맥도웰(John McDowell)의 개념주의 적 독해에 따르면, 우리는 개념적 표상들에 대해서 순전한 수용성 의 인상으로부터의 어떠한 제약도 부정해야 한다. 그에 따르면 지 성은 감성의 다양 그 자체에 이미 함축되어 있기 때문에, 지성과 독립적인 감성의 어떠한 역할도 있을 수 없다. 맥도웰에게, 유일 한 감성의 다양이란 개념적 표상들인 직관들이다. 이 논문에서, 나는 맥도웰의 설명이 근본적으로 잘못되었다는 것 을 주장할 것이다. 첫째, 그의 개념주의적 독해는 그가 비판하는 정합론의 난점을 극복하거나 피할 수 없다. 즉, 그의 개념적인 것 의 무제약성에 대한 그의 관점은 경험적 실재로부터 참된 제약을 획득하는 데 실패한다. 둘째, 그의 개념주의적 독해는 지성 독립 적인 감성을 받아들이는 것이 필연적으로 초감성적 실재에 빠지 게 된다는 그의 잘못된 가정에 근거하고 있다. 나는 전통적 이분 법을 단호하게 거절하는 칸트의 초월적 관념론에 대해서 이것은 사실이 아니라는 것을 주장한다. 칸트의 초월적 과제들을 보다 진 지하게 받아들일 때, 우리는 개념화되지 않은 감각 자료들이 인지 에 있어서 정당화하는 역할을 한다는 것을, 그러나 전통적 이원론 에 연루되지 않고 그렇게 한다는 것을 발견하게 될 것이다.
According to John McDowell's conceptualist reading of Kant, one must deny any constraint on conceptual representations from impressions of sheer receptivity. He insists that there cannot be any role for sensibility independent of understanding, since "understanding is already implicated in the deliverances of sensibility themselves." In this paper, I shall claim that McDowell's account is fundamentally mistaken. First of all, his conceptualist reading cannot avoid the difficulties of the coherentism which he criticizes. That is, his view about the unboundedness of the conceptual fails in achieving the genuine constraints from empirical reality. Second, his conceptualist reading is essentially based on his wrong assumption that the acceptance of sensibility independent of understanding inevitably lapses into the supersensible reality. I'll insist that it is not the case for Kant's transcendental idealism which firmly rejects the traditional dualism. Taking Kant's transcendental tasks more seriously, we find out that unconceptualized sensory data play a justificatory role in cognition, but without being involved in the traditional dualism.
