Recent advances in neuroscience, promoting especially through the brain imaging instrument such as fMRI, increase the necessity of discourse about the ethical and social issues in neuroscience. I suggest that it is high time to begin a discussion about those issues. And I think neuroethics as a domain of applied ethics, not as one of many fields of bioethics, to treat the issues in neuroscience more effectively. Neuroethics contain several issues not discovered in existing bioethics. It is anticipated that the studies of neuroscience do and will raise emerging ethical, philosophical problems and those effects on human life and society will be tremendous. Because each individual neuroscientific technology bring about characteristic ethical issues, it is possible to discuss neuroethical problems accoding to each neuroscientific technology.
