The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the pshychosical adjustment of adopted
children and their adoptive mothers' parenting style in open adoption of Korea. For this purpose, the
adopted children were divided into two groups, the highly well adjusted group vs the lowly bad group,
and then the adoptive parenting style of two groups was examined. The data were collected through
in-depth interviews with six adopted children and their six adoptive mothers and were analyzed using
qualitative thematic analysis. Results of analysis, the overriding theme was ‘warmheartedness’ & ‘control’,
which illustrates adoptive mothers' parenting style. The following subthemes includes “acceptance”,
“autonomy”, “intimacy”, “positivity”, “punishment”, “consistency”, “hierarchy”, and “reaction” Each of
eight subthemes is categorized into ‘proper function’ vs ‘dysfunction’. Adoptive mothers' parenting style
showed the distinctive differences between two groups. Based on the results of this study, the practical
guidelines and post-adoption services for adoptive parents are suggested.
