교육 이론 및 탐구의 전통에서는 물론 학문의 전통에서 일반적으로 추구되고 있는 지식 탐구의 원칙은 바로 ‘객관적 타당성’의 원칙이며, 이는 모든 논의나 이론의 객관성과 공정성을 보장해 주는 원칙으로서 강조되고 있다. 또한 ‘객관적 타당성’의 원칙은 인간의 합리적 사고 능력, 즉 이성적 능력과 밀접히 관련된 것으로 여겨지며, 그 점에서 이성적 능력은 지식의 획득에 없어서는 안될 능력으로 간주되어 왔다. 이성과 지식의 관련성에 대한 이러한 이해는 감정을 지식의 저해 요소로 여기는 전통을 낳게 되었으며, 지식과 가치 간의 이분법적 사고의 틀을 형성하고 있기도 하다. 본 논문에서는 지식 탐구의 ‘객관적 타당성’의 원칙에 전제되어 있는 지식과 감정, 혹은 이성과 감정 간의 간격의 허상을 살펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 감정이 지식의 형성에 해로운 것이 아니라, 필수적인 요소가 됨을 지적해 보고자 한다. 이러한 노력은 이론적 논의나 탐구의 ‘객관적 타당성’의 원칙에 나타나고 있는 남성중심주의를 극복하고, 여성과 여성적인 특성에 대한 관심과 재평가를 위한 노력의 촉구와도 밀접히 관련되게 된다.
Emotion usually has been regarded as subversive of knowledge and investigation, and reason generally has been regarded as the indispensable faculty for acquiring knowledge. In this context, reason typically has been contrasted with emotion, and this contrast has been linked with other dichotomies. Not only has reason been contrasted with emotion, but it has also been associated with the mental, the cultural, the universal, the public, and the male, whereas emotion has been associated with the physical, the natural, the particular, the private, the irrational and the female. However, it is important to acknowledge the importance of emotion for knowledge and investigation. It's because emotion as well as reason reflects an aspect of human knowing, and each is inseparable from the other. And it is also important to note that the alienation of emotion in human knowing is intimately related to the sexism. This fact shows us the ideological function of the principle of the objective validity in theory and investigation.
