The purpose of this study is to analyze the campaign for nonformal education in North Korea, advocating it as an effective and practical strategy to reestablish national consciousness and to develop collective spirit for national reunification, based on universal and commonsense ideology and function. In doing so, this study focuses on researching the pedagogical aspects of the campaign for nonformal education programs, such as curriculum organization, methods of instruction, recruitment of teachers, instructional materials, and incentive management, as well as the preparational elements of the campaign for nonformal education programs, such as educational resources, mobilization of the people, marshalling governmental resources, moblization of technical resources, and the people's response etc.. The choice of research methodology is dependent on the type and nature of the research. This study study focuses on social processes, and convincingly demonstrates the role of the campaign within different social and political settings, so that "immanent approach" is used, which allows a deeper and more thorough study. Description of the characteristic features of important nonformal education programs is presented, classified by a chronological order and institution.
