The aim of this paper is to explore variables of educational effectiveness of college/university in Korea and to identify their factor structure. In order to accomplish the purposes, two kinds of indicators were analyzed: one is quantitative indicators of college/university gathered in 1994, the other is qualitative indicators based upon college/university evaluation criteria developed by Korean Council for University Education in 1990.
The methods of the study are factor analysis and cluster analysis. The summary of results is as follows:
1. the results of factor analysis for the ninty four quantitative indicators reflecting educational quality level of college/university suggest that there are four latent constructs and those of factor analysis for the eighy four qualitative indicators based upon college/university evaluation criteria resulted in nine factors.
2. in order to cluster colleges/universities in terms of the similarity of educational quality level by eleven variables, which are selected through factor analysis, the study employed cluster analysis with squared euclidian distance and complete linkage option. The results of cluster analysis indicate that colleges/universities in Korea can be clustered into six groups in terms of quality.
