The purpose of this study was to investigate current working conditions of
music therapists in a clinical setting and their proposal needed for
improvement of music therapy. This research is based on the survey of 80
music therapists working more than two years clinical career in Korea and
the results are as follows. First, the average career of music therapists is
64.1 months and type of work, agencies working are different depending on
individual variables(degree of master or doctor course completion). Second,
depending on the type of work, there are differences in pay. Music therapists
of full-time working than part-time are higher satisfaction on pay. Third, the
common subjects were 8-13 years old children with disabilities. The working
proportion of treatment and counseling was the most highly. Whereas,
full-time therapists' satisfaction was different depending on administrative
duties. Therapists had the most satisfied with the quality of the music
therapy program. Last, expectations about the improvement of music therapy
differed according to age. Most of therapists proposed qualitative improvement
of music therapy program.
