Protestantism was introduced into korea between the mict-mineteenth contury and the close of the 19th century. Protestant missionaries had come to korea for the mission work of protestantism. But protestantism that was transmitted into korea by protestant missionaries goue various great important influences on the modernization in Korea. One of the most important influence that Protestantism have given the modernization of korea, was the modernzation of Korean Education. The purpose of this thesis is a historical study about contributions that mission school that was founded by protestant missionaries have in fluenced on the modernization of Education in korea. The national modern education in Korea have begun after 1895 A.D. But protestant missionaries had founded mission schools for exampole Pai Chai, Ewha, Kyang sin, Chungsin, and have begun the modern education with the new curriculum that was connected directly with the western culture. Therefore, the modern education in Korea is closely related with the introduction of Protestantism. These point of view, protestant mission-aries was pioncers of the modernization of education in Korea. Contributions of the education that mission schools have influenced on the modernization of education in Korea, are as follows. ⅰ) Mission schools in 1880 gave impetus to the modernization of education in Korea in the respect of the educational idea and object. The traditional education of Korea had founden on Confucian thoughts, and it was the only object that it seeks individual fortune and has a rise in life. But Mission schools had founded on Christian though, and aimed at the education of man who serves the society and the state. ⅱ) Mission Schools contributed to the modernization of education in Korea in respect of the curriculum educational lontents Mission Schools was the first modern school that educated with the modern curriculum in Korea. The traditional schools in Korea had educated Korean people with the scripture of Confucianism and the cbines classics. But mission Schools introduced new modern culture of the west, and educated Korean students with the modern curriculm that was onnected directly with modern civilizatior of the, West. ⅲ) Mission Schools contributed to modernization of education in Korea in respect of the school administration and the principle of education. ⅳ) Protestant missionary was pioneer of girls' education in Korea. Female protestant missionaries for example Mrs. scranton, Miss Ellers, founded schools for girls for the first time in Korea. Mrs. M. F. Scranton, a methodist missionary, founded Ewha girl school in theyear 1886 A.D. as the girls' school for the first time in Korea history And Dr. Annie J. Ellers, a female presbyterian missionary, founded Chungsin girl school in 1887 A.D. ⅴ) protestant missionary contributed to the modernization of education in Korea in respect of the education of the doformed children. Mrs R.S. Hall, a female protestant missionary as a doctor, founded a school for the blind and dumb in 1898 at Pyang Yang. This blind and dumb school was first school for the deformed children in Korea.
