The Strong Vocational Interest Blank(SVIB) has enjoyed long to psychologists and vocational guidance workers as devices for psychological assessment. However, translated forms of SVIB has been used in many countries and more over 800 research articles directly related to SVIB has been reported, few have studied how cultural factors may affect its method of measuring vocational interests. The specific quetions for which answers were sought in this study were: (1) Is there difference in vocational interests among men on the interest scale between U.S. and Korean if they are in the same occupations? (2) Is there difference in selecting occupations on the highly scored items between U.S. and Korean if they are in the same occupations? In order to accomplish the objectives, revised form of the SVIB (T-399) was obtained and translated into Korean language, and sent to 3 different occupational groups such as psychologist, minister, and accountant. Basic analysis of the data was done through National Computer System, University of Minnesota, by the help of Dr. D.P. Campbell. Results of the study were as follows: 1) “Test-retest” reliability, two-weeks interval, was. 914. 2) Interest measured by the SVIB shows that Korean psychologists and ministers' standard score means on 54 occupations were essentially identical to the U.S. means but thier standard deviations were lower. 3) Korean accountants' standard score means on 54 occupations were lower on all scales ompared with the U.S. group, but trends of the rating on 54 occupations were similar to that of U.S. group. 4) The items rated as high on letter grades (A and B+) were also identical with U.S. groups rated by Korean psychologists and ministers, but Korean accountants differ with U.S. group due to the lower ratings on all scales. 5) It could be concluded that cultural factors were not affected on expressing occupational interests between countries as far as psychologist and minister are concerned. However, interest for the accountant should be re-examined.
