The purpose of this study was to pretest the feasibility of standardizing the Cooperative Preschool Inventory (CPI) by Bettye Caldwell for use as a school readiness test in Korea. The Korean version of the CPI, renamed the School Readiness Test, was developed with 66 items for this study. The subjects of the study were 420 children, ages 3 to 6, attending nursery schools, day care centers, and kindergartens in Seoul area. The test was administered individually during the period of July 3 to August 10, 1978 by seven examiners who had received training in the administration of the test. The major findings were as follows: 1. The increment of the average raw scores was sufficiently discriminable as age increased. 2. There was no significant differences at the 5 percent level in average scores between boys and girls. 3. The average scores of Korean children were a little higher than the sample for standardization of the CPI in the United States. 4. The split-half reliability coefficient was .94 with the correction by Spearman-Brown formula, and KR-20 reliability coefficient was .93. 5. The correlation coefficient between the School Readiness Test and the Intelligence Test for Children was found .53 for 46 subjects. 6. The average difficulty index for the items was 71, indicating that ‘many items were relatively easy to answer; and there were 30 items showing low discriminating power with the discrimination index of .25 or below. 7. The percentile ranks were prepared for each age group to provide a temporary norm.
