Symbol is an unconscious language which expresses certain profound intuitive wisdom that is hard to express with language even though we are aware of it. Symbols are expressed in various ways with myths, folktales, pictures, dreams, proverbs, folk games, ect, and it is understood and interpreted according to the cultural context of the society. This study is to amplify various symbols of a dragon that appears in the folk models like folktales, old sayings, folk games, and dreams, a dragon which is very closely connected to the korean culture and lifestyle. The vitality of dragon is expressed in considering it as a god who presides over good harvest and big catch in folk-beliefs and folk games. It symbolizes the kingship as a supreme being and an absolute power. People consider it as an advocate who has excellent power and a transcendent being. In particular the korean dragon plays a special role of a defender of the country, living together with the korean people in form of the symbols for teams, schools, organizations, company names, ect. The dragon thus is not so much a symbol than a cultural being.
