The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of adolescents' ambivalence toward seeking
counseling and self-construal on the attitude toward seeking professional psychological help. For this study,
479 high school students in B city were asked to complete three survey instruments.
The results of this study are as follows. First, correlation analysis indicated that adolescents' ambivalence
toward seeking counseling and self-construal are negatively correlated with their attitude toward seeking
professional psychological help. Second, regression analysis showed that adolescents' ambivalence toward
seeking counseling significantly influenced on their attitude toward seeking professional psychological help.
Third, according to regression analysis in relation to gender, male students’ attitude toward seeking
professional psychological help was influenced only by the ambivalence toward seeking counseling. However,
for female students, both ambivalence toward seeking counseling and self-construal significantly influenced
on attitude toward seeking professional psychological help. Implications and limitations regarding these
results are discussed in addition to suggestions for future research.
