These days museums became to be located as the main place of keeping culture and arts. So
this fact became a major issue how each museum could make people understand artworks and
exhibited pieces systematically and experimentally. Many museums are interested in carrying on
an active role of leaming over simple appreciation in the past. These efforts are drawing a trend
that sets an obvious education goal according to subdivided education subject with various
education methods, and developing systematic education programs.
Although it is hard to define the role of museum as a social education institute, the goal of that
is to nature and to realize the quality upgraded art and character education by cooperation and
support rather than competition among school, home, and public or private educational institutes.
Museums are undergoing experimental studies in many ways in order to realize ancl improve
these problems. Especially, as the demand and expectation of the people towards museums are
increasing, they became to perform educational function for exhibition is also strengthening and
the expectation and preference of people are rapidly expanding in more an active way.
Moreover, as peopJe can see and learn the mental history and cultural legacy of human being
directly, it can be said that museums are good place for experience study more than any other
educational institutes, and they can be said as a ‘totally opened learning place' and ‘education
center’ , not in a traditional way. Considering these traits, children can learn specialized as well as
common knowledge effectively though they experience directly. Museurns therefore, should try settle
as a core place of art education by looking for various ways of offering chances of
education for children, and activating children’ s museum.
This study suggests a developing direction for improving and activating children’ s museum
educational program by examining a new tendency. It analyzed and compared the development of
scientific educational programs operation, subjects, contents, characteristics, and educational
methods, and tried to build the basic data and i.mproving method that can be realized to activate
children’ s museum education programs and development of art education based on museum
exhibitions.
