The number of foreign resident living in Korea is over one million, it is excess of 2% of total
population and the increase is being continue. It means Korea enter at a multicultural society.
Almost of multicultural education program are still based on cultural assimilation in spite of
almost of them looks 버ce based on multiculturalism.
Even though a single national tradition was abandoned, discrimination and misunderstanding
against foreign resident are not improved. These are the reason to need the multicultural
education in order to strengthen multicutural literacy of Korean. There are more than 500
registered museums in Korea. A number of museum which possess foreign objects can perform
multiαltural educatiom program based on multiculturalism. Among them the National Museum
of Korea has the best educational environment for multicultural education program. Special
exhibition for the cultural heritage of international has been hold continuously since 1980.
“Asian gallery" is opened based on Southeast Asia, South Asia, Northeast Asia’s cultural heritage
and special exhibition of the world civilization hold more than 2 tirnes since relocated to
Yongsan
However multicultural education program in the National Museum of Korea is not sufficient
compare to their environment because they do not have specific rnission for multicultural
education and do not join specialist on multicultural education department to develop program
In order to perform role of center museum in Korea the National Museum of Korea focuses their
attention on Korean and join with more specialist of multicultural education and give their
output to other museum.
