The elderly with hearing loss have difficulties in communication. This influences not only individual psychologic
status but also relationship with others and social activities, thus it finally affects quality of life negatively. Relative
to other countries, Korea tends to have accelerated aging currently, therefore it is necessary to understand and
prepare for geriatric hearing loss. The purpose of this study is to analyze and establish the standards for various
scales evaluating quality of life of hearing handicap of the elderly in Korea. To know and standardize psychological,
social, and emotional effects of the elderly hearing impairment, various questionnaires were evaluated including
Korean Hearing Handicap Inventory for Elderly-Screening (KHHIE-S), interpreted Attitudes Toward Loss of Hearing
Questionnaire (ALHQ), Korean version of Short form of Geriatric Depression Scale (SGDS), Korean version of
World Health Organization Quality Of Life assessment (WHOQOL-BREF), and developed Geriatric Everyday Life
Health Index (GELHI) to the 211 participants. All the participants were over 65 years old. After analyzing, the
standard scores were presented. The scores were found correlations of scales and increasing age showed negative
scores of psychologically, socially, and emotionally. Conclusively, it is expected to get the opportunities for helping
and understanding geriatric hearing loss with extension by applying these mutually complementary various scales.
