In this paper, I examine the impacts of globalization on the state education. I also attempt to understand the new role and significance of the state education as the modern project for nation-state formation in an era of globalization. The changing roles, purposes, and sovereignty of the state education are explored in this paper. The major aspects of globalization are de-nationalization, de-statism, and de-territorialism of education. Education is not a national but a trans-national project in the era of globalization. Due to transnationality and deterritory, the state education is confronting three major crises: crisis of normalization for national identity, crisis of public trusteeship, and devaluation of education credential as state capital. As education oversteps the national boundaries, globalization has negative effects on educational sovereignty and state educations' autonomy. Also, globalization redefines the stateness of education, the normalization of identity, territorial control, and the legitimate use of power for education by the state. Therefore, it is necessary to rethink the shape of state education in the era of globalization.
