이 연구는 교육사회학에서 비교적 최근의 관심 영역이었던 해석적 관점과 질적 연구의 기초 학문 영역의 하나인 현상학의 주요 개념들을 좀 더 명확히 하고, 현상학적 연구가 갖는 한계점 을 보완할 수 있는 방안을 탐색하기 위한 것이다. 현상학을 원용한 연구물들에서 현상학적 개 념들이 불명확하여 이들을 이해하는 데 어려움이 있기 때문이다. 먼저, 현상학의 주요 개념들(현상, 사태, 본질, 의식, 지향성, 경험, 초월, 반성, 본질직관, 환 원, 자연적 태도)을 좀 더 명확히 하고자 하였다. 이어, 현상학적 연구의 취약점인 객관화 문제 와 일반화 문제를 극복하기 위한 보완적 관점을 제시하고자 하였다. 이 보완적 관점은 현상학 적 연구가 보다 설득력을 지니기 위해서는, 교육 현실에서의 증거와 사실을 소홀히 하면 안 된 다는 점과, 귀납법적 사유만을 지향하기보다는 귀납법과 연역법을 동시에 아우르는 가추법(假 推法)에 역행추론(逆行推論)을 보완할 것을 제안한 것이다.
This article tried to clarify the phenomenological basic and methodological concepts which had been used ambiguously in the educational research. It was because people who wanted to apply phenomenological research method to education suffered from these ambiguous concepts and terms. Even phenomenologist used ambiguous terms and did not suggest concrete arguments, I tried to clarify theses concepts. I firstly tried to make clear the basic concepts of phenomenology and phenomenological method which were unclear and thus made researchers hard. The concepts that I tried to make clear were phenomenon, things, essence, consciousness, intentionality, experience, and transcendence. I also tried to clarify the ambiguous terms in phenomenological method: reflection, Wesensanschauung, reduction, and natural attitude. With this work, I suggested that even phenomenological research should not neglect evidence and facts that positivists cherish as their research resources. I also emphasized that phenomenological research should add Peirce's abduction(abductive method) and retroduction to the existing methods of induction in interpretive studies and deduction in positive works.
