The purpose of the study was to explore multi-cultural family children's thoughts on the physical education
and sport-type leisure activities. For data collection, three fourth-grade students attending 'Y' elementary
school located in metropolitan area in Seoul, Korea and three male students living in the U.S. were selected
as research participants. In the interviews for data collection, they were asked about their thoughts and
experiences of physical education and sport-type leisure activities, focusing primarily on common factors and
differences. Followings are the results of the analysis.
First, as the common factors in physical education and sport-type leisure activities, multi-cultural family
children in both Korea and the U.S. have experienced 1) interaction, 2) feeling of coexistence, 3) building a
positive emotion, and 4) transformation of thoughts from being marginalized to being centralized.
Second, as the differences of the thoughts on physical education and sport-type leisure activities, the
participants have experienced 1) intensity of communication burden and 2) intensity of separation strategy.
