The high school equalization policy served to solve the severe social problems of the credentialism
of the elite high school. Nevertheless, its great contribution is largely ignored by the opponents. The
equalization policy are attempted to be abolished in the name of the educational diversity. So, it is
necessary to examine the validity of the critiques of the equalization policy. The arguments for the
abolishment of the equalization policy and the introduction of the independent private school could
be understood as the intention of leading conservative elite groups to have the overwhelming
advantages in the status competition. From this point of view, in this study I argue that the current
conservative critiques on the equalization policy are nothing but the ideological attacks lacking their
validity. Besides, I argue that independent private school is unjust pre-modern school and that it is
likely to exacerbate socioeconomic segregation.
