The purpose of this study was to find how Food Art Therapy affects the self-efficacy of
students from low-income families. Study Hypothesis: The self-efficacy of students from
low-income families who experienced Food Art Therapy program will be higher than those of
the control group who did not undergo the program.
To verify the hypothesis of the study a research was conducted to 5thand 6thgrade students
from low-income families at Elementary School. 24 students were separated in an experimental
group and control group and participated the program 13 times. Food Art Therapy that was
applied to the study was based on Lee’s theory and purposed to improve self-efficacy of
students from low-income families.
After the program students wrote reports and evaluated the program. Scores of posttest were
set up as variable and ANCOVA was conducted. As results of the study, Food Art Therapy
increased self-efficacy of students from low-income families. Food Art Therapy had effects on
confidence and self-control that are reasons that decrease self-efficacy of students from
low-income families. In addition, after the program many students showed positive responses and
rated each session highly.
