본 연구에서는 화병 관련 주요 변인들에 대한 선행연구를 메타분석을 통해 화병의 주요 원인을 살펴보고 자하였으며, 이를 토대로 화병의 심리치료 개입에 대한 고찰을 하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 1990년대 이후 연구된 자료를 수집하였으며, 메타 분석에 적합한 논문 14편을 분석 대상으로 선정하였다. 선정된 화병 관련 주요 변인으로는 스트레스 및 스트레스 대처방식과 심리적 증상으로 우울, 신체화, 분노가 대 표적이었다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 스트레스와 화병의 관계에 대한 연구의 효과크기는 0.519로 큰 효과크 기를 보였고, 수용 행동과 화병의 관계에 대한 효과 크기 r=-0.811로 큰 크기에 해당하였으나 스트레스 대 처방식과 화병의 관계에 대한 효과크기 r=-.010(n.s.)으로써 유의하지 않았다. 우울과 화병의 관계에 대한 효과크기 r=0.610으로 큰 수준의 크기에 해당한다. 화병 집단과 정상 집단에 따른 신체화 수준의 차이에 대한 효과크기도 g=1.223으로 큰 효과 크기로 해석할 수 있다. 화병 집단과 정상 집단 간 분노 수준의 차이에 대한 평균 효과크기는 0.800으로서 Cohen(1988)이 권고한 해석 기준에 의해 큰 효과 크기로 볼 수 있다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 토대로 화병의 복합적인 증상 특징 관련하여 스트레스, 우울, 분노 및 신체 화에 효과적인 심리치료개입의 필요성을 논의하였으며, 마지막으로 연구 의의 및 제한점을 살펴보았다.
In this study examined the variables of previous Hwa-byung research by meta analysed, Based on this, consideration of psychotherapic intervention of Hwa-byung is studied. In this study, totally study papers about this issue were collected, and selected 14 papers for meta analysis. The selected main issues for Hwa-byung are stress, treat method for stress, depression as psychological symptom, somatization and anger were representative. The results were as follow. Study effect size of relation between stress and Hwa-byung is 0.519, it is large effect size. About Study effect size of relation between acceptance behaviour and Hwa-byung, it was r=-0.811, large size. On the other hand study effect size of relation between treat method for stress and Hwa-byung is r=-010(n.s.), it is not positive. Study effect size of relation between depression and Hwa-byung is 0.r=o.610, it is large effect size. About the group of Hwa-byung and normal group, different level of somatoform did not showed effect size g=1.2223, it is large effect size. About the group of Hwa-byung and normal group, different level of anger did not showed effect size 0.800, it is large effect size by suggested by Cohen(1988). Based on the results of this study and previous studies, the necessity of Psychotherapy of Hwa-byung was discussed. Finally, this study's meaning and limitations was discussed.
