This study is begun in awareness that our local governments have seen the meaning of
local lifelong education in a narrow sense. Local lifelong education could have various several
meanings, but they have put their attention only to a limited part of them, so they came to
bring out an limited result of their related policy and businesses for activating of local
lifelong education. In this study, I made an conceptual analysis of local lifelong education and
ensured the meaning of it and its activating, and I did an case study on a city of Gwangju
with it. Because I wanted to find out some practical problems for activating of local lifelong
education.
As a result, I can find that despite the gradual expansion, the level of activation of
lifelong education in the city are below par yet, and the lifelong education for the
community growth and development is in very poor situation. To the direction in which to
solve the problems, I can present three role tasks of local governments for activating local
lifelong education and I urged local governments should pay attention to the importance of
the lifelong education for community growth and development and take the lead.
