The purpose of this study is to suggest a direction to understand and appreciate about the genre paintings of Jinkyoung period. \'Jinkyoung period\' is the latter period of Joseon Dynasty and the Gold age of our culture. This terms implicate the period that showed us realistic and characteristic expressions, too. When we understand and appreciate a work of art, are generally interested in the aesthetic value of only that than the background of that. But we can understand the specific period through the work of art because art is a vessel that put in the specific period. On this view, this study focus on understanding and appreciating about the genre paintings of Jinkyoung period, the latter period of Joseon Dynasty and intend to research as follows. At first, this article intends to investigate historical, social, economic and cultural background of Jinkyoung period, which find out origin, development process, and important artists and their works of the genre paintings as the representative paintings of our cultural peak age, Jinkyoung period. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to make the mood that can easily approach to our the genre paintings of Jinkyoung period than past. Of course it is based on that we need to see and read our own cultural heritage based on our own value scale.
