The study purports to examine the psychological and environmental factors contributing to the development and accomplishment of the contemporary Korean creative writers, in the attempt to understand the process of talent development in the area of creative writing. To this end, the in-depth interviews were conducted on 4 writers and 4 poets selected from those who made debut in their 20s to 30s, are deeply committed to the field, and actively involved in literary activities. The selection was based on whether the writer has won at least one prize at the major literary awards and achieved commercial success. The common traits identified in the intellectual and linguistic areas for the accomplished creative writers were superior memory skills, unconventional ways of seeing the world, early linguistic development, and extensive early reading. As personality and motivational traits, the accomplished writers showed the devotion and commitment to writing, fantasy play and imagination, and the strong desire for self-expression and recognition from others. They also had mentors who recognized their unusual talents and provided support and encouragement for their writing processes and products. Personal traumas and adversities also affect the writer\'s motivation to write. Based on the findings, educational implications for the verbally talented were discussed.
