이 연구는 국내에서는 이제까지 거의 연구되지 못했던 학사지도 전문화에 대해 살펴보고, 학사지도교수제의 한국적 도입 사례의 분석을 통해 한국 대학교육에서 학사지도 전문화가 가지는 함의를 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 학사지도 전문화는 대학의 주된 기능으로 연구활동이 강화되고, 대학의 양적인 팽창에 따른 학생인구의 성장과 학생구성의 다양화라는 두 가지 대학의 변화가 주된 요인이 되어 등장한 제도적 변화였다. 미국의 경우, 1970년대 이전까지는 다양한 학사지도 프로그램이 시도되었고, 내용적으로 처방적 학사지도가 실시되었다. 1970년대 이후, 학사지도는 보다 체계화되고, 내용적으로는 발달적 학사지도로 발전하게 된다. 한국의 경우, Y대학교 학사지도 전문화는 학사지도교수제도의 도입으로 제도적으로는 전공 및 진로지도를 전문화하였고, 이에 따라 내용적으로 학생들의 다양한 배경과 요구에 부합하는 발달적 학사지도가 대학재학, 학업성취도에 긍정적 역할을 한 것으로 평가된다. 한국대학에서 학사지도교수 제도의 확산은 학생들의 자아개발을 돕고, 진로지도를 전문화하며, 학부제의 부작용을 보완하는 긍정적인 기능을 함으로써 대학교육의 내실화를 가져올 것으로 예상된다.
This study aims to explain the significances of academic advising specialized work and address its implication to the Korea educational system. The specialized academic advising system as a significant institutional transformation in higher education has been developed in American universities. It has showed a trend of systematization in terms of institutional settings and developmental advising in terms of its contents since the 1970s. In Korea, Y university applied the system in 2000 with emphasis on specializing the work of advising of selecting majors and career development for students. As a result, the developmental advising, designed to consider various background and demands from students, increased the students\' enrollment and academic achievement. The extension of the system is expected to help students\' self-development, systemize a work of career development, and make up the negative effects of university school system in Korean education
