The teachers in the study reveal various perspectives on how SLA and bilingualism manifest during the early years, and how they affect the learning of children with a Language Background other than English (LBOTE). The teachers also seemed to rely on experiential and intuitive approaches in planning and teaching English Language Learners (ELLs). This study examined how pre- and post-service early childhood teachers’ beliefs and responses to bullying among young children differ by level of qualification, type of bullying and whether or not it was witnessed. This qualitative study sought to explicate the roles Early Childhood Literacy coaches played in a federally-funded project to improve early language and literacy instruction for preschool children. Across three Head Start sites, participants included classroom teachers, literacy coaches, center coordinators, and program coordinators. Structured interviews were conducted and analyzed to understand the roles assumed by coaches who served preschool teachers.
