The research findings draw on interviews conducted with 24 kindergarten directors from provinces across China. The children’s discourse is analysed using a framework based on opinion/belief, plausibility and deductive reasoning schema in relation to the functional use of actuality and modality linguistic terms. The analysis suggests that the children were able to transition to deductive reasoning and this was reflected in their discourse through a shift to modality, and that this shift suggested a sense of authority by the children in validating their thinking. -

were 199 posts to an online forum in response to an opinion piece about early childhood education. The following key themes were identified in the forum posts: the importance of child care; brain research and early childhood; and, challenges balancing career and family. Findings provide an insight into current issues relevant to early childhood policies in Australia, from the perspective of a self-selected group of community members, in response to an issue related to care and early childhood.
