Victimizing Stages of bullying in elementary physical education class
11 Pages
7 73-83 (11 pages)
The purpose of this study was to examine the process of becoming a bully in physical education class and how the bullied individuals perceived their bullying experiences and how these influenced them using grounded theory. The participants of the study were 8 5th grade (4 male and 4 female) students with bullied experience in physical education class. Five teachers who teach physical education also participated in interview to provide exhaustive explanations. The researcher also observed 15... -
A pilot study of augmented reality-based postural control training in stroke rehabilitation

3 13-19 (7 pages)
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of Augmented Reality-based Postural Control (ARPC) training on balance and gait function in patients with stroke. Design: Single-blind randomized controlled trial. Methods: Twenty participants who experienced a stroke were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to the ARPC (n=10) or control group (n=10). Subjects in both groups received conventional physical therapy for 60 min per session, 5 days per week, for 4 weeks. In... -
Guanylyl cyclase C and guanylin reduce fat droplet accumulation in cattle mesenteric adipose tissue

11 341-348 (8 pages)
Guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) is a member of a family of enzymes that metabolize GTP to cGMP and was first identified as a receptor for heat-stable enterotoxin. Guanylin (GNY) has since been identified as an endogenous ligand for GC-C in the intestine of several mammalian species. The GNY/GC-C system regulates ion transportation and pH in the mucosa. Recently, it was reported that GC-C and GNY are involved in lipid metabolism in rat mesenteric adipose tissue macrophages. To examine the role of GC-C... -
Effects of administration of IH901, a ginsenoside intestinal metabolite, on muscular and pulmonary antioxidant functions after eccentric exercise
Nam-Jin Lee, Jung-Won Lee, Jong- Hwan Sung, Yeoung-Gyu Ko, Seongsoo Hwang, Jong-Koo Kang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
3 249-256 (8 pages)
This study was conducted to investigate whether administration of IH901, a ginseng intestinal metabolite, ameliorates exercise-induced oxidative stress while preserving antioxidant defense capability in rat skeletal muscles and lung. Eight adult male Sprague-Dawley rats per group were randomly assigned to the resting control, exercise control, resting with IH901 (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg) consumption (R/IH901), or exercise with IH901 (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg) consumption (E/IH901) group. The trained... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2014, Vol.18 No.4 5 313-320 (8 pages)
The study was conducted to investigate the role of vitamin E in the high altitude hypoxia-induced damage to the intestinal barrier in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into control (Control), high altitude hypoxia (HH), and high altitude hypoxia+vitamin E (250 mg/kg BW*d) (HV) groups. After the third day, the HH and HV groups were placed in a hypobaric chamber at a stimulated elevation of 7000 m for 5 days. The rats in the HV group were given vitamin E by gavage daily for 8 days. The other... -
Expression Profile of Neuro-Endocrine-Immune Network in Rats with Vascular Endothelial Dysfunction

was endothelial dysfunction in all three models with varying degrees. However, the expression of NEI network was totally different. Interestingly, treatment with simvastatin was able to improve vascular endothelial function and restored the imbalance of the NEI network, observed in the Hcy+HFD group. The results indicated that NEI network may have a strong association with endothelial function, and this relationship can be used to distinguish different risk factors and evaluate drug effects. -
Loss of hsp70.1 Decreases Functional Motor Recovery after Spinal Cord Injury in Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.3 7 157-161 (5 pages)
Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are specifically induced by various forms of stress. Hsp70.1, a member of the hsp70 family is known to play an important role in cytoprotection from stressful insults. However, the functional role of Hsp70 in motor function after spinal cord injury (SCI) is still unclear. To study the role of hsp70.1 in motor recovery following SCI, we assessed locomotor function in hsp70.1 knockout (KO) mice and their wild-type (WT) mice via the Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan (BBB)... -
Short-Term High Expression of Interferon-Alpha Modulates Progression of Type 1 Diabetes in NOD Mice

a progressive destruction of islet β cells mediated by an imbalance between effector CD4 T helper (Th)1 and regulatory CD4 Th2 cell function. Since interferon-alpha (IFN-α) has been known to modulate immune function and autoimmunity, we investigated whether administration of adenoviral- mediated IFN-α gene would inhibit the diabetic process in NOD mice. The development of diabetes was significantly inhibited by a single injection of adenoviral-mediated IFN-α gene before 8 weeks... -
Nitric Oxide-cGMP-Protein Kinase G Pathway Contributes to Cardioprotective Effects of ATP-Sensitive K+ Channels in Rat Hearts

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.2 5 95-100 (6 pages)
Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) has been accepted as a heart protection phenomenon against ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury. The activation of ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels and the release of myocardial nitric oxide (NO) induced by IPC were demonstrated as the triggers or mediators of IPC. A common action mechanism of NO is a direct or indirect increase in tissue cGMP content. Furthermore, cGMP has also been shown to contribute cardiac protective effect to reduce heart I/R-induced...
