young people with opportunities to develop themselves in a well-balanced manner: Academic and intellectual advancement should take place in the context of spiritual and moral growth. This, however, is not happening in the national education system of any nation today. On the contrary, with the advancement of modern science and technology, materialism and consumerism are on the rise, and spirituality and character development have taken a back seat. Adult society is obsessed with the acquisition... -

take into consideration the historical development of “religious education” in Europe; Belgium and the Netherlands are taken as representative examples for the purposes of this study. Although most constitutions of European countries regard education as a secular matter to be organized by the state, in fact countries such as Belgium and the Netherlands allow religious institutions to organize education. These faith-based schools thus provide “religious education,” meaning the inculcation of... -

of pyroptosis and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines including interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18. Although the inflammatory response is an innate host defense mechanism, chronic inflammation is the main cause of rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and Sjögren’s syndrome (SS). Since rheumatic diseases are inflammatory/autoimmune disorders, it is reasonable to hypothesize that inflammasomes activated... -

stimulate thymocyte proliferation. 10 μg/ml LPS resulted in an 11 fold increase in IL-1 production. In comparison, 50 μg/ml silica resulted in a 4 fold increase in IL-1 release. These data indicate that in vitro exposure of alveolar macrophages to silica activates the release of various bioactive mediators such as reactive oxygen species, PAF and IL-1 which thus contribute to amplification of inflammatory reactions and regulation of fibrotic responses by the lung after inhalation of silica. -
