필자는 1974년 9월부터 1975년 6월까지 British Museum(Nat. Hist.) 및 일본의 곤충학 교실을 방문하여 한국에서 우송해 간 나방류들을 재분류등 정하고, 한국나방류에 대한 지금까지의 보고 및 연구결과들을 고찰함으로써 나방류 연구를 위한 기초자료를 제공코져 이를 발표한다. 1. 한국 나방류에 대한 조사는 1880년대부터 주로 유럽민들에 의해 채집, 보고되기 시작하였으며 1910년대부터는 일본인들에 의해 조사 발표되었고, 국내인에 의한 조사 연구는 1930년대 후반부터 지금까지 불과 몇 편의 논문이 발표되었을 뿐이다. 2. 한국의 곤충상은 많은 종들이 조사 발표되고 있는 일본등 기타 지역과 비교해 볼 때 소수의 그룹을 제외하고는 미개척 분야나 다름없으며 특히 미소나방류의 경우에는 거의 조사가 이루어지지 않아 이 분야의 연구 조사는 시급한 일이라 사료된다.
This paper is a brief review of the history and literature of Korean lepidoptera fauna. The writer reidentified Korean leidopterous insects at the Dept. of Entomology, British Museum(Nat. Hist.) from Sept. 1974 to May 1975 and in Japan for one month in 1975. And the taxsonomic status of Korean lepidoptera (Heterocera) compared with other countsrie is discussed. Insect fauna of the Korean region is still relatively unexplored compared with other regions, especially Japan from which a remarkable large number of species have been described.
