한국산 나비류 중 미국흰불나방을 포함한 7가지 곤충의 유충을 대상으로 granular cell의 구조를 전자현미경적으로 관찰하였다. 모든 granuar cell이 과립, 소기관, 허족등을 가지고 있었으나 그 수나 형태에 있어 현저한 차이를 나타냈고 더욱이 한 개체의 granular cell이라 할지라도 변이가 매우 심하였다. 대부분의 과립은 균일물질로 이루어져 있으나 배추흰나비의 경우는 microtubule로 구성된 과립이 가끔 나타났다. 대개의 세포는 세포질내에 섬유성인 microtubule을 가지나 특히 하늘나방의 경우는 microfibril로 이루어진 섬유성인 섬유다발을 두세개씩 소유했다. 미국흰불나방의 경우는 granular cell 자체가 가공 분열상을 나타냈다.
The larval granular cells of 7 species of Lepidoptera including Hyphantria cunea Drury were studied with the aid of electron microscope. The granular cells are characterized by granules, and they usually contain well developed ER, Golgi complex, lysosomes and vacuoles, large numbers of mitochondria, ribosomes, and several secretory vesicles. All the cells protrude cytoplasmic projections. The numbers and sizes of granules vary according to species. Most granules were composed of homogenous materials, while in some case, they were composed of tiny microtubules. Exceptionally in Phalerodonta the granular cells contained fibrous bundles composed of microfibrils. Dividing granular cells were noticed in Hyphantria.
